If you use Apple 8窶｢24 GC graphics card, you may experience undesirable output when printing with an HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver. For example, unexpected lines may appear. You can prevent these problems by turning off the 8窶｢24 Accelerator feature. From the Control Panel, click the icon that depicts a rocket inside a red circle with a slash.
After Dark (Berkeley Systems)
If the After Dark screen saver activates while the printer is printing, printing may stop. If you touch the mouse or keyboard, After Dark "checks out" and printing resumes. You can prevent this situation by accessing After Dark control panel, and clicking the "WHEN" button. Then select the "System IQ Activity Monitor." This allows After Dark to monitor the computer and not activate the screen saver if the computer is busy (i.e., printing in the background).
ATM (Adobe Type Manager) (Adobe邃｢)
Use ATM version 3.5 or newer for best results. Some earlier versions have compatibility problems with the HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver.
Canvas (Deneba)
Use version 3.0.6 or newer for best results. Earlier versions have some compatibility problems with the HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver.
Claris Works (Claris)
If you use Claris Works, you may experience problems when printing with an HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver. Some outlined polygons will not print correctly if they were originally created in Claris Works. If you experience this, try creating the polygon in another application and importing it into Claris Works. This should solve the problem.
Excel 3.0, 4.0 (Microsoftﾂｮ)
Excel does not automatically copy color data into the Clipboard, either text or graphics. When you create a chart that has color data, and then copy that data to the Clipboard, the Clipboard will copy the text and graphics in black. If you want to copy the image from the Clipboard in color, you must first select the "Print Using Color" option in the Print dialog box. Then click "Preview" or "OK." The "Print Using Color" option is saved and the data can now be copied to, and pasted from, the Clipboard in color.
FileMaker Pro (Claris)
For best results, use FileMakerPro version 2.0 or newer.
FreeHand邃｢ (Macromedia)
For best results, use FreeHand version 4.0 or newer.
Version 3.0
窶｢ FreeHand Heavy effect does not produce accurate results. Instead, use true Bold
to create bold fonts.
窶｢ Borders between the edge of the page and the image on the screen may
not match the borders when printed.
窶｢ Cancelled print jobs appear as partial print jobs in the HP PrintMonitor
queue.
窶｢ Scale images within FreeHand instead of using Page Setup to reduce the page.
HyperCardﾂｮ (Apple)
Use HyperCard version 2.1 or newer for best results. HyperCard 2.0 is not fully compatible with HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer drivers and problems can occur when printing, including a system crash. These problems are fixed in the HyperCard 2.1 release.
KidPix (Brﾃｸderbund)
Use version 1.2 or newer of KidPix for best results.
MacDraw II 1.1 (Claris)
Mixed black and color patterns often do not print as you expect. In order to print color, check "Print Color Patterns" under the Print Options menu.
Rotated shadow and outline text do not print properly.
MacDraw Pro (Claris)
For best results use version 1.5 or newer.
Rotated text prints as black.
MacPaint (Claris)
Use version 2.0.
Microsoft Word 5.0, 6.0 (Microsoft)
Use version 5.0 or newer for best results. Be sure to turn Fractional Widths ON. Check your Microsoft Word manual to find out how. This will help to ensure print quality and prevent gaps in underlining.
Microsoft Works (Microsoft)
Use Microsoft Works version 3.0 or later. Earlier versions have compatibility problems with the HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer drivers and System 7.
Norton Utilities DiskLight (Symantec)
Use Norton Utilities DiskLight version 2.0 or newer. Earlier versions were incompatible with the HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver. If Microsoft Excel spreadsheets will not display in color, disable DiskLight.
Now Utilities Now Menus (Now Software)
Use Now Menus, version 4.01. If you choose the HP DW 600 Series (AT) printer driver from the Apple menu using Now Menus, version 3.01, the printer list in the Chooser will not display correctly.
PageMakerﾂｮ (Adobe)
The HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver settings for Page Setup override the Page Setup settings in PageMaker. However, PageMaker Page Setup settings determine how the image will appear on the screen. To see how the PageMaker document will appear when printed, use the HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver Preview screen.
Persuasion (Adobe)
Use version 2.1 or newer for best results.
When you turn Fractional Widths ON, you will see a closer match of text and graphics alignment; your printout will appear closer to what you have on the screen.
Persuasion does not always scale correctly. If you encounter problems, use the scaling feature in the HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver.
In Preview mode, patterns and gradations of patterns will appear more simplified than in the actual printout.
Photoshop (Adobe)
All Versions
In the PhotoShop Print dialog box is a checkbox that says "Correct for printing colors." This is intended to provide the same functionality as the "Color Matching" menu in the Options dialog box. If you select the PhotoShop option, both the application and the printer driver try to match printed colors to screen colors. The result is undesirable output. For best results, leave the PhotoShop option unchecked and HP ColorSmart will match the colors for you.
Version 2.01
Output Device DPI must be set between 100 and 150 dpi. Higher settings may result in file spooling problems.
For best results from PhotoShop, upgrade to version 2.5 or newer.
PowerPoint (Microsoft)
For best results, use PowerPoint, version 3.0 or newer.
QuarkXPress (Quark)
Use QuarkXPress version 3.1 or newer for best results. Earlier versions have
compatibility problems with HP DeskWriter 600 Series software and/or
System 7.
SuperLaserSpool (Fifth Generation Systems)
Version 3.0 works well with the HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer driver. You MUST disable or remove SuperLaserSpool 2.02 and earlier versions in order to use an HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer.
SuperPaint (Adobe)
Use version 3.0 for best results. Earlier versions of SuperPaint have compatibility problems with HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer drivers. When printing, always have the object or draw layer (the compass icon) in the foreground. If you do not, SuperPaint may crash during the print job.
System 7 Virtual Memory and 32-Bit Addressing (Apple)
If you have used the System 7 Tune-Up application released by Apple, both virtual memory and 32-bit addressing will work well.
If you have not used the System 7 Tune-Up, and if you want to use either 32-bit addressing or virtual memory, you must turn both options ON. Use the Memory Control Panel to turn these options on.
WordPerfectﾂｮ (Novell Corporation)
For best results, use WordPerfect version 3.0 or newer.
Version 3.0 does not always import WordPerfect for DOS and Windows documents correctly. Some imported graphic images will not print completely.
